Maternity Leave Rules 2009
November 22nd, 2009 by admin

I just found out yesterday that I am pregnant..:) I want to tell people at my work, but I am a little bit?

concerned….I think they will be okay with it….I want to know the best way to do it, and also if anyone knows the rules of FMLA…I know you have to be employed for twelve months before you qualify. I started in November 2007 and praying that everything goers okay I will be going on maternity leave in March of 2009 so I will have been there over a year…will I qualify???? I live in Florida so if anyone knows the rules of this state with employment issues that would be great also…Thank you!! :)
I am in a position at my job also where I am obligated to tell everyone where I am going at all times, if I have an appointment I have to tell my supervisor and I even have to tell people if I am going to use the restroom….so it is going to be kind of hard to keep secret….

I told my boss at 8-9 weeks because I was so ill, I didn’t want him to think I was just calling in sick. I told him that I didn’t want to announce it yet because it’s still too early in case something happens but that I wanted him to know first since I report to him. He respected my wish and did not mention anything but secretly asked me on a daily basis if I’m ok and etc. He was very understanding.

I told the rest of my team once I was 12 weeks pregnant. FMLA will cover you up to 12 weeks which means if you decide to take 12 weeks off work to bond with your baby, by law your employer can not terminate your position and you are allowed to return to the same position or something similar if that position has been termed.

I started with my company in March 2007. I became pregnant at the end of September 2007 and due July 1, 2008. I qualified for FMLA because it was after a year by the time I delivered my daughter so you’ll qualify.

Good luck!
