cash “donation” to teacher (I am in California)?
I received a flyer from my 3rd grader class. It says the teacher is going away on maternity leave and they are giving her a babyshower. The time falls on a school day at 1:00pm in the school classroom.
The flyer says “We are asking every student to donate $5 towards a gift for her. There is an envelope attached for you to put your donation in. Mrs. XXX (the teacher) will be collecting the envelopes but does not know what is in the envelopes so please make sure they are sealed.”
There is nothing indicate who wrote this.
Personally I understand and appreciate a teacher’s work. I know they sometimes have to buy things in classroom themselves. I don’t mind sending them cards, holiday small gifts, etc. However, something doesn’t feel right here. What is your opinion?
if they want you to give a gift to the teacher, why don’t they say to just bring a gift, instead of it’s got to be cash? i smell a rat, and i’m on the opposite coast from you. i’d call the school and ask about it before you donate, if you plan to.
