Maternity Leave, Ontario Canada?
I have been working in a restaurant for the last 3 1/2 years. I have been working the exact same shifts for that time. I have been on maternity leave for the last year, I want to go back to work next week but my employer told me I would have to work different shifts(they don’t work for me) Isn’t my job protected for a year? My employer told me if I couldn’t work those shifts he would give a 2 week severence package. I don’t want that I want to go back to my same old job. What can I do? Is this right? Can they do this? Can anyone help me with phone numbers or internet links?
Yes they have to hold your job for a year…but not necessarily the same shift. Go online to the ontario government website on teh maternity leave section. Basically they have to hole your job…which they have…but not necessarily the same shift. As far as severance goes its 1 weeks for every year that you work there.
