Pre-term labor & disability?
I was hospitalized for pre-term contractions a week ago at 32 weeks into the pregnancy. The doctors barely stopped me from going into pre-term labor. I’m now on strict bed rest for the rest of my pregnancy and can no longer go to work or even perform simple household chores. My maternity leave pay doesn’t start until AFTER the delivery. I was wondering if anyone has been in this situation and did you apply/ qualify for some kind of disability benefits due to pre term labor. PS: I live in NJ and work in NYC (can I apply for NY state disability?) How do I do that and do I qualify?
Disability does NOT take months to get approved. If you are disabled and your Dr. can sign saying that you are then you will be approved for disability. The proper steps that you need to take is calling your local disability office in NJ not NY. And tell them that you have become disabled, they will ask you question about who you work for and phone numbers and addresses, they will send you paperwork to take to your Dr. that he will fill out and mail back to the State disability office. He may charge a fee to do that. After that is done you should get info in the mail regarding how much you will get every week and about a week after that you will get your first check. So like I stated before, it does not matter if your disability does not start until after the baby is born, if you are disabled now you can get on early disability. Call them get the papers and take them to your next Dr. appt so he can fill them out and get them back to state disability.
