Maternity Leave Insurance Canada
Another few questions about international maternity policies?
UK/Canada moms:
When did you stop working while pregnant, before you had your baby? Did the amount of time you took off before giving birth have any effect on the amount of time you could take off afterward or the pay you received?
What if you were put on bed rest by a doctor? Would this be covered by your insurance/government leave? Would a month of bed rest, say, mean a month less of maternity leave or are they unrelated?
Lastly, what happens if you know in advance that you will not be returning to work after your maternity leave is over? Can you still receive benefits if you announce that you are leaving before you go out? Or, if you don’t decide that you are leaving until the end of your leave, is there any penalty?
Thanks, I was talking about these issues with someone today and I am, as always, curious (and jealous).
Remember how I said we have two supplements national and employer ~ one year for both, even if you go on it 6 weeks prior to baby coming ~ still one year. As far as bed rest ordered by the doc that would be covered by the employers sick benefits and so wouldn’t affect the year long maternity benefits provided by the employer. Nationally, also, year long benefits not cut short by doc ordered bed rest. It starts when baby is born.
I know I’m not going back when my benefits end. Instead I’ll be taking advantage of our student assistance program (provincial) that provides no interest loans for tuition and living costs. I haven’t told anyone at work that yet LOL but if I did it wouldn’t affect my benefits.
