Will I be entitled to Maternity Allowance? (UK)?

I’ve been trawling the government websites but still can’t make head nor tail or it. I’ve been living in America for 18 months and returned to the UK in August 2009. I did not find a job so I started my own business and registered as self employed on Oct 10th 2009. I’ve been paying class 2 NI contributions. I just found out i’m 4 weeks pregnant and am wondering if I will be entitled to any benefits? I also am due to start a christmas temp part time job in Sainsburys next week too.

hey hun, it all depends on how much national insurance you have paid, if you contact your local job centre, they should be able to figure out what you are entitled to. Also your local citizens advise beuro (sorry cant spell lol) should be able to help too. Sorry I havnt been much help, but hope I have pointed you in the right direction x
