Travel nursing allows great flexibility that allows you to choose as much or as little as you want. Similar to a freelancer, you can control the number of assignments you want to accept and book. It is also a great way to assess different working environments and situations before finally settling down full time.

Unfortunately, in times of recession or cutbacks, the first one to go in a hospital workforce is the temporary staff including the travel nurses. Permanent and clinical staff is obviously more secured in their job than travel nurses, who are more easily expendable. Traveling frequently can also be disorienting and fatiguing and it is not for everyone.

In the state of Florida, can someone on maternity leave get laid off?

It just happened to my sister-in-law.

Well there is afederal law called the FMLA family medical leave act. I believe the amount of time that you may take off depends on the company, but i think the law allows for a minimum amount of time off. If they specifically said, we are firing you for missing work because you ad a baby then no i think that is a violation of the law. if they have a company policy allowing for 6 weeks off and you take off 2 months without using vacation or sick days then you may be fired for no show no call. she would need to look up her company policy about FMLA and also see what exactly she was fired for. if she was laid off because of the baby, but someone thing else was used as the reason, then you may have a hard time proving it was about the baby.
