Employment Law Training Courses

Can a company change a contracted employment start date without my consent? (UK)?

I was supposed to start work with a company today, and have a signed copy of my contract stating today’s date as my start date. However, I received a phone call late on Friday telling me they do not have enough places on their training course for me and they need to put my start date back a couple of weeks (without pay). They have asked me to find temporary work for myself in the meantime. Is this legal? Can I insist they pay me as contracted? I live in England (UK) so I am querying English law here.

Legal to ask? Yes. Can you insist? Yes. Will it be good for you in the long run? Probably not.

Maternity Leave Keeping In Touch

maternity leave keeping in touch
Has anyone had to take their former employer to the county court for refusing to pay the ET award?

My former employer, the World Travel Awards Ltd, was ordered by the Employment Tribunal (London Central, 23 June
2006) to pay me a compensation for sex
discrimination on the grounds of maternity leave,
injury to feelings, constructive unfair dismissal and
unlawful deduction from wages (Statutory
Maternity Pay)

World Travel Awards Ltd keeps ignoring this
judgment of the Employment Tribunals and have never got in touch with me. So why the law is that weak? It is a double discrimination to me.

You can follow this story as it unfolds. http://www.haveyoursay.info/

Seek advice from the person (solicitor?) who assisted you in the compensation claim.

Although you may be able to obtain judgment against them for non-payment of the compensation actually getting the money out of them might be a different story.

I don’t think that the previous comment about the Chief Executive going to prison is correct – this is not a criminal but a civil case.
